Life is too Short

It’s time for us to think about us.  We put everything and everyone before us. We have hectic schedules, demanding careers, and when you add spouses, children, and/or parents to the equation, it gets much more complex.  I made a personal decision to do and be a better person.  I refuse to go to an early grave due to stress and anxiety.

With that being said, I developed what I call a desire list.

  • I want to live.
  • I want to be healthy.
  • I want to be bold, confident, and fierce.
  • I want to stop letting my size keep me from excelling in my career.
  • I want to be happy.
  • I want flowers (2)
  • I want to love and to be loved
  • I want to be so financially stable that I scare myself.

Life is what you make it. Life can also be gone in the blink of an eye. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone. That’s why you deserve to be happy.  Your happy place may not be the same as my happy place, but what matters is that you are happy!

Do Not Stop Now-Les Brown

Do not stop now!! Continue to work on yourself and your dream. Do not look for others to hold your heart, take your hand or have your back. You are responsible for your own life and for creating your own path. Commit to move out of your own way. Stop procrastinating or waiting for someone to rescue you.

Be clear about who you can count on and who you must count out. Make adjustments and surround yourself with positive energy, people and thoughts. Great things take time, effort and sacrifice!! Keep looking up and moving forward with the end in mind. You have something special. You have GREATNESS within you!!

Embracing Me!

I am a natural sister now.  In other words, I decided to stop placing chemicals in my hair to keep it straight. Looking in the mirror after the ends were cut almost made me return to a perm or go back to braids. After some thought, I looked in the mirror at my mom’s house and had a pep talk with myself.  I told myself to “Embrace your natural beauty and accentuate your positives.  You are beautiful and you are fearfully and wonderfully made.  God has given you all that you need to succeed and it is now time to birth what He has placed inside of you!”  I said a little prayer to the Lord to allow me to embrace my inner and outer beauty.  In addition, I asked the Lord to allow me to graciously accept compliments while ignoring the ignorant remarks of others. Finally, I asked God to give me a sweet spirit that could come only from Him.

As you learn to embrace yourself, you recognize WHOSE you are and who you are.  Embracing who you are, at this particular time in your life, begins with you exhibiting confidence and letting your light shine as bright as the morning star. You rise in the morning and say thank you God for allowing me to see another day and I know you can handle every problem, issue, aggravation, and concern that may cross my path.

I challenge you to develop “I am” statements to assist you with embracing yourself with the flaws and all. Speak life, favor, and encouragement over yourself. Your “I am” statements should be specific and relevant to improving who you are or desire to be:

  • I am a homeowner.
  • I am financially fit.
  • I am beautiful.
  • I am confident.
  • I am talented.
  • I am a child of the most high God.
  • I am worthy of a Godly man.
  • I am worthy of true friendships.positive
  • I am healthy.
  • I am loving.
  • I am intelligent.

If you don’t embrace you, how can you expect someone else to love and accept you unconditionally. Never doubt your worth. It’s time for you to put time and energy into yourself instead of drama filled situations, physical altercations, dead end relationships, negative friendships, commitment phobia men or women, and people who take, but rarely give.  Delete anything and anyone that is a risk to your success. Get ready for people to talk about you because you are more concerned about your future rather than hitting the club. You want an education, and not be a permanent fixture that receives government assistance.  You want a career instead of a job. You want a 401K and not a job at the Circle K. You want a career with benefits, not be in an unhealthy relationship that causes you to be a friend for sexual benefits.

I encourage you to talk back to me.  I am interested in your thoughts and ways you can embrace yourself.  Remember, it’s your time! It’s your moment! Seize the day! Embrace you!

Live your life!

Do you ever have times that you wonder why you are on this earth? Do you ponder what is your purpose? To answer both these questions, I would say yes.  In fact, we all do at some point. Sunflower-Bunch-500_bc6a7f96

I encourage you to find a quiet place to be still and listen to what God is saying to you. Find time to mediate on His word and pray. If you seek the kingdom of God first and all of His righteousness, I guarantee He will direct your path.

Some of us desire love, marriage, health, financial stability, and career growth.  Others seek other things, but the main thing to do is trust God at His word and prepare for Him to show up and show out on your behalf. Keep an attitude of expectancy.

I’ve gone through many things in my life.  Multitudes of disappointments, mistakes, hurts, and attacks, but I can only thank God for delivering me out of them all.  I wear my battle scars with honor because if it had not been for God on my side, I would not be here today.  He did not have to show me grace and mercy, but I’m grateful that He did.

With God’s help, I’m beginning to live my life on my own terms.  I recently created a bucket list of the things I want to do and places I want to go.   Examples of some of the items on my bucket list:

  • Love me unconditionally
  • Say “NO” without explanation
  • Blog!!
  • Create more savings
  • Add more to my 403b
  • Walk on the beach and watch the sunset with my boo:)
  • Do a photo shoot with my besties
  • Be more mindful of my spending
  • Eat clean and exercise
  • Loose 25 pounds by my birthday
  • Purchase a venue for events
  • Do Painting with a Twist
  • Embrace my flaws and all
  • Publish two academic articles
  • Submit a presentation proposal for AMLE
  • Spend time at the beach to think and write
  • Travel to Puerto Rico
  • Travel to Dubai
  • Travel to New York for a shopping spree
  • Travel to Los Angeles for a shopping spree
  • Travel to San Francisco
  • Travel to Aruba
  • Wear matte lipstick
  • Monthly massages and/or facials
  • Make changes in my career
  • Read for pleasure and professional growth
  • Love, appreciate, laugh, and love more

These are only a portion of things on my bucket list to “Live my life!” I truly believe once you make a decision to have joy and happiness in your life, you are ready to explore and “Live your life” by your own rules. Ask God to steer you towards your destiny.  There is more for you to do while you are still among the living. Trust God to strengthen your confidence, order your steps, show you what to do, and lead you where He wants you to go!

As we prepare to embark on a new year, make it your business to “Live your life.”  Make 2016 your best year yet!

Destiny Walking

To walk into your destiny, you must be willing to submit completely to God’s will

Dr. Keva L. Mitchell

“being confident in this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ – Phiilippians 1:6

I’ve always been told that God preordains our steps even before our conception.  With this being said, we as servants, of the most high God must trust Him and know He has our best interest at heart.

With that being said, if we want to be elevated spiritually, emotionally, physically, financially, etc… We must reduce us and let Him increase in us.  The word says “greater is He that is in me than He that is in the world.”  This should make us think about being submissive and humble to the Lord, God Almighty.

Destiny is defined as fate or the predetermined course of events.  To walk in the path that God has set for you, you must submit yourself to His will and way.  When you make the decision to submit yourself to Him many things will enter your mind and spirit, but just continue to pray without ceasing.  Love and understand God for who He is and what He means.  Always remember, “the race is not given to the fastest run, but to he that endures to the end.”

God will never lead you anywhere He can’t keep you.  Strive daily to walk in your destiny and submit to God’s will.

No Separation

Dr. Keva L. Mitchell

There are times in life where we feel alone and isolated.  We feel that we have no one to depend on or anyone that loves us.  We are in a constant tailspin in our thoughts and actions. These are the times when we have to draw nearer to God and He will draw nearer to us.  One might ask, how do I stop the constant rotation?  Well I’m glad you asked.

Pray – Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all of His righteousness.  This alone is enough for one to shout.  When we’re on a dark road, with no light around us, just look up and seek God.  We are His children and He knows all about our thoughts, our troubles, our fears, our disappointments, our mistakes, our everything.  But we must remember to seek Him for guidance and to order our steps according to His purpose and not our own.

Praise – In times of trouble or when we are shackled down by a heavy burden, we must look to the hills from which cometh our help, because all of it comes from the Lord.  Keeping a song in your heart can renew and strengthen you!  We must make a joyful noise and praise our way until our breakthrough.  One Sunday, I wasn’t in a “churchy” mood, but then I decided to go anyway despite what I was feeling.  I’m surely glad that I did.  I let go and I let God have his way in my praise.  I opened my mind and heart and let the Holy Ghost move through me.  Praising allowed me to forget about the cares of the world and praise God for who He is, and for His grace and mercy which are sufficient.  The Bible says God will inhabit the praise of His people, so no matter who we are, we must know whose we are, and we must praise.

Press – What is press?  Press is when you are going through and you continue to move forward in spite of your circumstances.  You pray to God, you praise God, and press towards the higher mark for God.  When you press, you’re showing  satan that he’s a liar and God has you covered.  When you press, you are showing all your haters that you are a child of the King, and by using His word, you are powerful!   The scriptures serve as blocking mechanisms.  When you are under attack, you speak those scriptures and let them just reside in you.  Scriptures such as:

  • Be still and know that I am God – Psalms 46:10a
  • We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose – Romans 8:28
  • For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord –Romans 8:38-39
  • Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it onto completion until the day of Jesus Christ – Philippians 1:6
  • Seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receiving; she who seeks finds; and to her who knocks, the door will be opened  – Matthew 7:7-8
  • For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of sound mind – 2 Timothy 1:1
  • Now faith is the substance of the things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen – Hebrews 11:1
  • Casting all your care upon him, for he cares – Peter 5:7
  • But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus – Philippians 4:19
  • Cast they burden upon the Lord, and he will sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved – Psalms 55:22

Growing in the Lord is a daily process.  We must remain diligent in our prayer life, our praise life, and our press life.  When you feel as if all hope is gone, remember to lay it all on the altar and leave it in God’s hands.  We are His children and He knows all about our problems.  Never let anything separate you from the love of God.  When we are bad, He loves us.  When we are discouraged, He loves us.  When we make mistakes, He loves us.  What’s most important, He sent His only begotten son to save us from or sins.  Now that’s true and real love!

I am a lover of words.  I totally adore quotes by individuals from all walks of life.  I even include quotes in my curriculum as a teacher.  I was brought to tears by several students that told me this summer that they were studying the quotes and trying to grasp understanding.  They also told me they were trying to apply them to their lives.  When kids in an inner city and Title 1 school, who society has negatively stigmatized, tells you those things, it means you’re in the right place, at the right time, to make a great difference.

On another note, I use quotes in my personal life too as positive points. As a lover of words, I place quotes on my vision board and in my journal.  These words allow me to refocus on positive things rather than negative things in life.  Below are several quotes that I adore.  I hope you adore them as well.  Feel free to comment and share your favorite quotes!

“To acquire knowledge, one must study, but to acquire wisdom, one must observe.” Marilyn Vos Savant

“Problems are not signs, they are guidelines.” Robert H. Schuller

“Faith is the willingness to look foolish.” Pastor Jamal H. Bryant

“Quality is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle

“Everyone can’t handle your elevation.” Dr. Jasmin Sculark

“A goal is a dream with a deadline.” Napoleon Hill

“Goals are the links in the chain that connect activity to accomplishment” Tom Ziglar

“You position yourself for the favor of God only when you handle inconvenience with grace.’ Pastor Jamal H. Bryant

“Even if the vision tarries, wait on God.” Dr. Jasmin Sculark

“Waiting to develop courage is just another form of procrastination.  The most successful people take action while they’re afraid.” Anonymous

I’ve finally decided that I must put myself first.  #ichooseme is not about being selfish, but about loving who you are! It’s about accepting what makes you unique! #ichooseme applies to your health, relationships, career, finances, etc…

#ichooseme is not a movement, but a mindset shift.  We often put everything and everyone before ourselves. Which can be draining to your mind, body, spirit, and soul if you allow it.

#ichooseme is a mindset shift that empowers one to be bold, to dream, and step towards your God given destiny.

#ichooseme allows you to discover who you are and WHOSE you are. You are opening yourself to new experiences, networks, people, places, and situations that will strengthen you and propel you towards greatness.

I encourage you to join the mindset shift by taking pictures, developing vision boards, writing your visions, and living your dreams.

If I can do it, so can you………#ichooseme
